Born in Ljubljana (Yugoslavia, now Slovenia) on 5 October 1966, Mitja Vrhovnik-Smrekar has been a composer of theater and film music since 1989. He has written music for over 70 plays and more than 10 films. In recent times, she has been collaborating with directors Ivica Buljan, Mateja Koležnik and others. He regularly collaborates with the theater Drama SNG Ljubljana, Slovenian Youth Theater Ljubljana, Miniteater Ljubljana, Theater ITD Zagreb.

He is a member of the music group Bossa de Novo, in which plays percussion. The other members are: Primož Vitez (voice), Aljoša Kosor (guitar), Marko Gregorič (double bass) and Drago Ivanuša (accordion). The group plays songs in the style of the Brazilian bossa nova – both the original songs, as well as other pieces (eg, Stand School, Maya, Song XIV Division) and some of their own songs.

In 2013, the album ‘Druge Pesmi’ was released, featuring a cover version of Wuthering Heights. The album consisted of various compositions by Mitja Vrhovnik Smrekar.
