The Capital Radio Awards were invented by the radio station Capital Radio to celebrate the biggest names in pop music.

During the ceremony on 6 March 1979 at the Grosvenor Hotel in London (UK), Kate Bush won two awards: for 'Best British Female Singer' and 'Best British Newcomer'.
